Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.
Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.
Our pharmacists provide clinical support to the Practice by monitoring patient medication. They work alongside our doctors and nurses and are able to prescribe medications, and monitor and treat patients with conditions such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, asthma and chronic lung disease. If you have been in hospital the practice pharmacist can help you to understand how to take your medication.
Our two phlebotomists are fully qualified to take blood samples from adults and children, in order for the samples to be sent off and tested in a lab at the hospital.
The in Practice phlebotomy service will not be up and fully running until 1st July 2019.
We are a training practice and are committed to the education and training of Medical Students and Doctors.
Central Park regularly employs Trainee GPs (GP Registrars) at the practice. This is a qualified doctor who is undertaking further training in primary care to enable them to work as an independent GP. The trainee may be working in the practice for a period of 4-12 months. They have their own consulting room and see patients in their own surgeries. They are supervised by a senior GP. Our current GP Registrar is Dr Griffiths.
We also have Medical Students who visit the practice for a block of time to learn about medicine in the primary care setting. The GP you are seeing may ask if they can be present during your consultation.
